My Philosophy

My Philosophy

My top four values and how they are important to understand who I am as a person are below. Each of these values represent an important aspect of what makes me the person I am today. Please feel free to hover over each one to learn more about me.

Values

Selfless

Service

Volunteering and helping others is very important to me. Giving more than receiving is what I strive to live by because if I can help at least once person in some way, their life is made better and easier.

Trustworthy

Being trustworthy is very important to me because it means I can be counted on. People can rely on me to get work done and in a timely manner which makes everyone's life easier.

Family Oriented

I pride myself in being family oriented because they have done so much for me. I am my best self because of them and have learned from them. They've been my best friends and my role models and are the most important thing in my life.

Efficiency

Being efficient is another important value to me because I love when things work smoothly. If my work is efficient, I am getting as much done as I possibly can in a timely manner, which is making other aspects of my life work better.

Passions

I am very passionate about community service, adoption, and helping others and this passion was ignited by my parents. I was born as an at-risk child due to being under the influence of drugs and alcohol at my birth. Due to this, I was put up for adoption by the state of Texas. At the age of two months, I was adopted by my parents and given my forever home on Mother's Day in 1996. My parents have always been selfless and helped others in need and my adoption was no different. They gave me a loving home and an amazing childhood. At a young age, they instilled my love of selfless service by taking me to various volunteer events. I have a strong passion for volunteer due to them and have been continuously volunteering for the past ten years. Below, I have included some links to organizations that I believe are making an amazing effort to help various causes true to my heart and that I have personally volunteered for. Please feel free to explore them!

Motivators

My motivators include my family, my fiance, the feeling after accomplishing hard work, and the end goal of being financially stable with a family of my own. My family and fiance, Matthew, always push me to be my best self. They encourage me to do my best, work, hard, and never give up. I work hard at everything I do to make them proud. They believe in me, even in times of stress, and that's what motivates me to keep going. Another motivator is the feeling after I have accomplished a task or project. Knowing that I will have a great feeling of accomplishment after putting in hard work always motivates me to finish with the best work I can possibly do. Lastly, the thought of being financially stable with a family of my own is what motivates me. Seeing the end goal of all this hard work I have put into my college career is what pushes me to be the best I can be. I have to do well now in order to be financially stable and that is a big motivator for me.

Personal Brand

Personal Brand

I, Angela Shipp, am committed to achieving goals I set for myself by being disciplined in all I do. I strive to be a responsible student and coworker and always stay focused to achieve the next goal I set for myself.

Strengths and Personality Traits

Mays Business School places great importance on discovering who you are and researching why you make the decisions you make. To do this, I have taken the Humanmetrics Jung Typology Test to find my personality type and the Strengths Finder to see my personal strengths. By taking these tests, I have discovered how to work best in a group, what personalities I work best with, and how best to interact with those who are different than me. I have taken these tests every year for various classes and my results surprisingly haven't changed. Please click the links below to find out more about who I am.

Strengths

In my Freshmen Business Initiative Class, I took the Strengths Finder Test. My strengths came back as being Discipline, Achiever, Woo, Responsibility, and Focus. I dug deeper into my strength of being an "Achiever". Please click the "Talent Theme Development Plan" link below to read more about my thoughts of my strength.

Discipline

People who are especially talented in the Discipline theme enjoy routine and structure. Their world is best described by the order they create.

Achiever

People who are especially talented in the Achiever theme have a great deal of stamina and work hard. They take great satisfaction from being busy and productive.

Woo

People who are especially talented in the Woo theme love the challenge of meeting new people and winning them over. They derive satisfaction from breaking the ice and making a connection with another person.

Responsibility

People who are especially talented in the Responsibility theme take psychological ownership of what they say they will do. They are committed to stable values such as honesty and loyalty.

Focus

People who are especially talented in the Focus theme can take a direction, follow through, and make the corrections necessary to stay on track. They prioritize, then act.

Personality Type: ESFJ

I have had to take the Humanmetrics Jung Typology Test in four different classes throughout college. Knowing you personality type is super important to help you grow not only as a student, but an active group member. Most of these classes were taken in my first two years, but I also had to take it once again recently. I have been assessed as an ESFJ every single time I take the online test. The best definition of who an ESFJ is comes from Truity, a company based out of San Francisco that helps individuals take personality test and then helps them discover their personal strengths.

Truity has stated that an ESFJ indicates a person who is energized by time spent with others (Extraverted), who focuses on facts and details rather than ideas and concepts (Sensing), who makes decisions based on feelings and values (Feeling) and who prefers to be planned and organized rather than spontaneous and flexible (Judging). ESFJs are sometimes referred to as Provider personalities because of their interest in taking care of others in practical ways.

Goals

Goals

I have numerous goals I would like to achieve during and after my college career at Texas A&M University. My short term and long term goals are listed below along with how I will achieve said goals.

Short Term Goals
Long Term Goals

In 5 years: I will still be working for the Texas Retailers Association but in a higher position. Matthew and I will be starting a family soon by adopting a baby. We live in Houston, Texas and have our current dog, Pineapple, and a second dog named Kenny Rodgers.

In 10 years: Matthew and I will be living in San Antonio, Texas with our two kids and two dogs. I will be starting my new job as the Digital Marketing Director for the San Antonio Spurs, a job I have worked many years for.

General Long Term Goals:

  • Devote as much time and energy into my engagement and marriage

    • I will put Matthew and our relationship first by being fully engaged when spending time with him. I will do this by making sure that the time we spend together, such as eating dinner after work or playing with our dog Pineapple, will be without our phones and computers.
  • Volunteer during my professional career

    • I feel it's very important to continue to volunteer even after college. I will do this by keeping in good contact with Officer Vasquez, head of the DARE program in Seguin, TX, and help out when she needs it.

  • Continue to maintain strong relationships with friends I have made in college

    • I have met so many amazing people in my four years and would like to strengthen these lasting friendships by contacting them regularly after graduation.

  • Make a 4.0 GPA in my final semester

    • I will accomplish this goal by continuing to treat studying as a part time job and devoting 6 hours every Monday through Thursday to studying.

  • Make the best out of my last Big Event

    • I will do this by working my absolute hardest on the day of my last Big Event on March 24, 2018. I will try and be the best staff assistant by answering any questions students may have in order to make their day as smooth as possible.

  • Show professors how much they have impacted my college career

    • I will show my appreciation by handwriting thank you notes to professors and staff who have impacted my life in a positive way. Sending a note to show my appreciation will be the start of maintaining a good relationship with those who have been so important to me.
