Reflection: Senior Vice President of Delta Sigma Pi

My sophomore year, I was elected as the Senior Vice President of Delta Sigma Pi. This position consisted of helping the president out, organizing our five rush events, and leading the other officers in order to have a successful year. Delta Sigma Pi is an international, co-ed business fraternity that focuses on enhancing leadership skills in members while also serving in community service projects, and social events. The summer before I started my official position, the president of Delta Sigma Pi and I met to discuss how we can make our organization better and how we can utilize everyone's time efficiently. We first came up with the idea of having members join committees under an executive. There were a total of six positions on our executive leader panel meaning each executive member would have about ten to twelve members to help them.

I was fortunate enough to have ten members on my team and they were a big help from the start. They understood I had to plan rush events while also getting our informationals days and locations set up. Delegating tasks to them helped me tremendously and they are what made the first couple of weeks go great. While I focused on the logistics of where rush events and informationals would take place, my team helped come up with creative ideas on what activities will be done at the events. With my team, we came up with some fun rush events, like ice skating and hot dogs in the park, while also adding in activities where students could meet our members.

Having to manage both the officers and my committee had its challenges but worked great in the end. It took some getting used to in order to fully trust those around me with tasks I wanted to do myself. I like to do things a certain way and that's not always going to be the case when I start my full time job. This position helped me realize that everyone around me is fully capable of trying to accomplish tasks delegated to them, and even if they weren't, it didn't hurt to have two sets of eyes looking at something. This position was one of my favorite to attain and I couldn't have imagined it going any better.
