Reflection: MKTG 321 Final Presentation

One of the most stressful and scary times I have experienced in college happened the night before my teams Marketing 321 final presentation. It came to light that one of our members was being removed from the class due to participating in unethical behavior, cheating on an online exam. The news broke the night before our presentation and that specific group member hadn't finished their slides nor communicated with the team on their vision for their section of the project. Here we were, faced with three slides not done, a team member down, and only a few short hours before our final presentation.

My team and I were first filled with anger, frustration, and defeat but knew we had to hurry and finish our PowerPoint before the next morning. At this point we still had only gone through our parts individually so we still needed to practice and do a final run through. In order to start solving this problem we were faced with we each looked at our individual parts and made them as strong as we could. Our thought was that if we made our individual parts strong and exactly how the instructions wanted these parts done, we would have an overall strong presentation. Our next plan of action was to talk through our former team member's slides and find a direction we wanted it to go. We then all decided on a slide, started the research needed for it, and spent the next two hours working on it.

Midnight rolled around and we were done with our PowerPoint and were ready to start practicing. While it took a while to get our new timing down, we finally found a good rhythm. We ran through our presentation a couple of times before were presented with a new problem. Our former team member had our prototype that was made out of the rubber bands. After multiple attempts of trying to contact our former teammate, it was apparent we weren't going to get an answer in time for our presentation. We then went back to try and find our design and make a new prototype before our presentation in the morning. We succeeded in making our prototype and went home to get some sleep before the big day.
Our presentation went great and we all couldn't have been happier with the work we had done. Our TA came up to us after class and stated how impressed he was with our fast problem solving skills and how we still completed our project following all the guidelines listed in the instructions and stayed within the time limit. While this experience was a stressful one, I learned a lot about myself and my teammates. Instead of whining and being distraught, we all put our heads together and completed our project to the best of our ability. We overcame an obstacle and received a high grade because of it.
