Woke up this morning to a great sleep. For breakfast, we had scrambled eggs, Canadian bacon, yogurt, and yummy juice. After breakfast we went on the enterprise tour of Bulembu’s businesses. We went to the dairy farm and tried emasi (sour buttermilk drink), the bakery, the water bottle factory, the honey factory and then looked at the forest where the timber farm was. After the enterprise tour we had free time until lunch, where most everyone started buying souvenirs and also relaxed. Lunch consisted of lasagna, a Greek salad, and of course a strawberry milkshake.
After lunch was over we went on a tour of the children’s living quarters. We started at the baby room where the zero to two year olds resided, and they were adorable. In the baby room we heard multiple stories of how they got the Bulembu and the care they are experiencing from the aunties who take care of them. After the baby room we went and saw the kitchen
where they prepare food for the three hundred and fifty-two kids. While at the cafeteria we met Sifiso, a child who grew up in Bulembu and now works as an agricultural manager. He had an incredible story. He saw the love and support that the orphans receive and wanted to give back to an orphanage that has given him so much. He decided that he wanted to find a way to grow different fruits and vegetables for the children's meals after learning how much the orphanage had been spending on food for the children. According to all the workers in the orphanage, there hasn't been a vegetable or fruit he hasn't been able to grow.
We then went and saw the Doosey homes, where everyone from five to eighteen lives. They are taught from a young age to be independent and do most everything themselves. We then saw the giant cafeteria where they eat and watch TV. Afterwards, we saw the elementary school and learned about all the programs available for the kids to participate in. We then had free time before dinner, where most everyone practiced for their presentations. Dinner consisted of chicken, rice, vegetables, and royalty cake. Afterwards we sat around the fire and then had game night where we played telephone and Pictionary. Very fun night!
